ZIPLab Plus Converter v3.0 - For UltraBBS v2.09+ ONLY!
= (c)1992 UltraWare =
= Written By Charles Scheffold =
--------------------
■ What Is ZL4UBBS? ■
--------------------
ZL4UBBS is a small program, which aids in the use of ZIPLab Plus with
UltraBBS v2.09. When used in conjunction with QKDoor, by Christoper Hall,
it will allow you to successfully set up ZIPLab Plus (PCBoard Version) on your
UltraBBS system.
----------------
■ Installation ■
----------------
It is very easy to install ZIPLab Plus on UltraBBS if you follow these
directions carefully. You must be using UltraBBS v2.09 or higher. Older versions
are not suitable for use with this program.
1 - Obtain the latest version of ZIPLab Plus (1.9b at the time of this release).
You should be able to find this FINE piece of software on any of your local
quality BBS systems. You will also require PKZIP.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE, ARJ.EXE,
and LHA.EXE. These also shouldn't be too hard to find on your local BBS.
2 - Make a directory somewhere called "ZIPLAB". (Without the quotation marks!)
3 - UnZIP the ZIPLab archive into that directory. The ZIP files that are within
the ZIPLab archive can be UnZIPped wherever you want them. I suggest you
put them in the same directory in order to make life easier.
4 - UnZIP ZL4UBBS.ZIP into the ZIPLAB directory. After you do that, UnZIP
QKDOOR2E.ZIP (included in the ZL4UBBS archive) as well.
5 - Now, edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT and add the ZIPLAB directory to your, probably
already too long, PATH statement (I know mine is!).
6 - Go to the ZIPLAB directory and run the setup program. Answer all the
questions truthfully (Lieing will get you no where). The name for the
configuration file is usually PTEST.CFG, but you can call it whatever
you wish. When it asks for the full path and name of your PCBOARD.DAT
file, you should type something like " D:\UBBS\PCBOARD.DAT ". Where
"D" is (obviously) the drive letter.
7 - Next, go to your UltraBBS setup. In the section marked "BBS Parameters and
Switches", make sure that "Use Post Upload Batch?" is set to "Y".
8 - Almost done! If you don't alreay have an UPLOAD.BAT, copy the one included
into your Main UBBS directory. Edit the batch file to suit your system. The
only things you should change are Drive Letters and Path Names. All the
other things there should be left alone. If you already have an UPLOAD.BAT,
then modify the one included to your liking.
9 - That's It! ZIPLab Plus is READY TO GO!
---------
■ Notes ■
---------
1 - Depending on your setup, you may need to add a parameter or 2 to the
QKdoor command line. For example, if you are using a locked COM port, read
through the QKDoor documentation for information on adding the correct command
line parameters. No matter what you change, QKDoor should ALWAYS be converting
PCB14 to PCB14. Don't change that option or trouble may occur.
2 - Included is a program called SHROOM. It may be necessary to install this
in your system if you encounter an Error Number 7 (Out Of Memory). If this
happens, modify your RUNBBS.BAT or whatever batch file you use to load
UBBS.EXE. In it, instead of loading Ultra by typing "UBBS", load it by
typing "SHROOM UBBS". What this does is swap UltraBBS to disk during a
shell. Make sure SHROOM.COM is in your PATH. Even if you don't get an
error, I reccommend using this fine program.
3 - I have not been able to get ZIPLab Plus v1.9c to work with this
particular door converter. If you can find a better door converter, then by
all means do so. Just make sure you have it make PCBOARD.DAT. It seems that
QKDoor will not make the v14.5 data files, just the v14.0. Also, this time
around I included an older version of QKDoor. It is because this makes the
PCBOARD.DAT with full paths to you UBBS dir, unlike the new version which
will specify it as the current directory and cause things like CALLER to
end up in the batch directory.

■ What is UltraWare? ■
----------------------
UltraWare is a new concept that I thought up. All software released
into UltraWare is absolutely, positively, free! All that is asked is that you
give my BBS a call or send me a message in the RIME UBBS conference letting
me know that you are using my software. I think this is a small price to pay
for quality software.
----------------
■ Registration ■
----------------
Although no registration is required, a small donation is appreciated.
This is just for me to keep my computer system up and running. Registration
won't get you any fancy disks or typset manuals, just my appreciation and
your satisfaction that you helped a programmer continue writing quality
software. If you find this program useful, please send $5.00 to the following
address:
Charles Scheffold
332 90th Street
Brooklyn, New York 11209
Please make all checks payable to "CHARLES SCHEFFOLD". Also, remember to
register the other software that is packaged along with this. Registration is
what makes SHAREWARE WORK!
